A New Vision:
What and Why?
What is Your Church’s Vision?
Your children’s ministry should be an extension of that vision. Define your vision in a single statement. Your vision must be simple and credible so that people can grasp hold of it and help you run with it.
- “And the Lord answered me, and said, ‘Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it,’” Habakkuk 2:2.
Our vision in a “nutshell” is EVANGELISM & DISCIPLESHIP! We evaluate everything we do and make sure that we are feeding that vision. We ask, “Are we winning kids, and ultimately their parents, to Jesus, and are we discipling them to be “doers” of God’s Word? Are we producing fruit-bearing branches on the vine of Jesus Christ?”
“Barely Get By” Just Isn’t Good Enough!
Lay a strong foundation in each child’s life that will last a lifetime! Challenge yourself and your ministry team to go beyond the “quick fix,” “fast food,” “puffed cereal” mentality. Be willing to invest the time and effort necessary to build an effective ministry that feeds children a strong, spiritual, health food diet that “tastes” great and will keep them coming back for more! The Word of God that kids apply will carry them successfully through life.
Lay Your Foundation on the Word of God
Your foundation determines the size, strength and longevity of your ministry. The wise man built his house upon the Rock–revelation knowledge of God’s Word–and it withstood storms and pressure. The same principle applies when building a strong children’s ministry and strong, spiritual kids. Never underestimate a child’s potential to learn and act upon powerful biblical principles.
- “For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or]founded on a rock.” Luke 6:47-48
Don’t Compromise Quality for Convenience
Far too often, church leaders choose the easiest route when it comes to training their most valuable assets–children. The world spares no expense or time in its attempts to capture the minds and hearts of children. Who or what is shaping their future? Those who have their attention!
All God expects from us is our best! Excellence is doing the best you can with what you have where you are. Start where you are! Do your best today to capture kids’ hearts and minds with the Word of God which will influence them “for their lifetime.”
